Belize does not boast brand name franchises, in regard to international companies; however all that may soon change because an American businessman says his company will bring international appeal to our shores. DHS Holding Company, based in Nashville, Tennessee, has announced the commencement of the first phase of development of the Cenote Falls Shopping Centre. It is being billed as an investment that will bring world class and family-friendly shopping experiences to Belize. The announcement was featured in the US media and it seems that construction will commence shortly on a recently acquired 40-acre parcel of land along our northern border. President of DHS Holding, Co. has stated that they will bring in retailers such as McDonald's, Abercrombie & Fitch, Nike, and other fine stores." Their research shows that Belizeans spend nearly $100 million across the border in Chetumal yearly, simply because retail options are not currently available in Belize. DHS Holding Company hopes to reverse that with the Shopping Centre. They have commented that “Belize citizens will be able to have the EPZ shopping experience in their own country and those dollars will remain in the Belize economy." the company is also submitting documentation to secure an online gaming license in Belize. In a letter to DHS Holding Company they reported that Honorable Erwin Contreras, Minister of Economic Development, stated, that Belize would look very favorably toward an approval of the license, subject to a final review of their business plan and supporting documentation. Contreras was also quoted saying that it is most important that DHS’s investment will bring employment and growth to Belize"

The highlight of the day was the King Kong burger challenge. Stepping up to the plate was Wade the Gringo, Hayden, Michael, Nabhor and Claudia. It was a close competition with Wade being the first to gobble up the eight patty, cheese and bacon burger tower. Hayden came in at a very close second place.

Tropic Air announced today that it will be inaugurating three times weekly non-stop Cessna Caravan service between Belize City International Airport and San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on March 12th, 2012. from a friend....
I did that route a few years back in my old adventure days on something that looked like a twin engine school bus with wings and a rear cargo hatch. We entered through a side hatch that had spider cracks emanating from around the frame and inside there was more duct tape than you could shake a stick at. We never did gain a whole lot of altitude(wasn't going to ask the only pilot why), but we were distracted by the beauty below. We flew over lots of coastline, Roatan(that might have been a landmark for no GPS )and then turned west and then along the S coast of Bze. You see the mountains to the West, we could go from side to side as the plane maybe had 30 seats and only about 10 on the flight.

What You NEED To See Tonight
What You NEED To See Tonight
What You NEED To See Tonight
The Bachelor on ABC at 8pm EST. NOW WAIT! Before you click off this post, give me one moment to explain why you should watch it. I know all the reasons why you don't want to...it's mindless drivel, it's totally phony, it's the worst way in the world to find romance, Ben the current bachelor is not only ugly but drippy and annoying. And you are right about all of that. We all know that they are not going to find real love. How can you with 3 cameras and 5 producers surrounding you at all times? In fact, out of the 22 seasons of this show (YES! It has been on for 10 years now), only one "winning" couple actually wed. Not exactly a surefire formula.BUT THIS EPISODE IS FILMED IN BELIZE. ENTIRELY IN BELIZE. AND MOSTLY ON AMBERGRIS CAYE AND CAYE CAULKER (our baby sister island). Sorry for the shouting. Take a look at some of the locations and tune in tonight. Even if you have to watch the show on mute.
Most of these pictures are not the finest quality. They are actual screen shots taken from the show and give you a taste of what tonight's show is all about.
A little romance on top of a Mayan pyramid?
Jumping out of a helicopter into the Blue Hole?
And even a late night party at the Lazy Lizard in Caye Caulker with lots of locals. If you haven't read about the date that I witnessed, check out: Scooparazzi.
OMG...IT IS GOING TO BE TOTALLY AWESOME.And to all you nay-sayers out there: If it is your first and only viewing, you will probably be wondering...who is craziest? The bachelor, his cuckoo Barbie-like fem-bots or you, for actually watching the show? But, I promise, you will have to admit by the end...Belize looks amazing. They will show only the very best scenery. And tens of millions of people worldwide watch this show whether you like it or not.So, if you watch tonight's show and haven't visited Belize, those trips and parties that the Bachelor is attending aren't special just for a television show. You can go snorkeling, lobster hunting, diving, swimming with sharks, you can dance to local music, you can explore the Mayan Ruins...all by just visiting. They are things that happen every day. And Belize is only a few hours from Houston or Miami. You'd better Belize it.Come visit!Become a fan of SanPedroScoop.com on Facebook for daily updates on what's happening on Ambergris Caye and all of Belize. And enjoy the show!

It is clear that good food, great music and community involvement are all part of the new owners of Legends Burger House agenda. I had the chance to meet Kevin and Spencer for an Arnold Palmer Monday afternoon and learn about more about the new family that has taken over the business that Jules and Tyler successfully built.

The challenger must eat all of this in its entirety within 30 minutes in order to have their picture placed on the Wall of Fame and the meal is free. Currently, nobody has completed the King Kong Challenge and neither could we – and it was two of us taking on that monster. Needless to say it was delicious. A delectable experience we have been talking about all week at the office and we certainly recommend it to everyone.
The current champion for the first version of the King Kong Burger (which has now been retired) is Wade the Gringo with the last bite clocking in at 24 minutes and 17 seconds. All challengers who fail to complete the challenge will have their picture placed on the Wall of Shame, located in the restroom hallway.

10 Surprising Health Benefits of Beer | Yahoo! Health
10 Surprising Health Benefits of Beer Yahoo! Health
Beer drinkers rejoice: Your favorite brew may be healthier than you think.
For years, wine drinkers have indulged without guilt, reveling in the news that red wine can help protect against heart disease. Recent research shows that beer can also be good for what ails you, from reducing risk for broken bones to helping warding off diabetes and mental decline. It can even increase longevity, a large study suggests.
However, the key to tapping into beer’s benefits is moderation, meaning just one 12-ounce beer per day for women and two for men. Heavy drinking ups the threat of liver damage, some cancers, and heart problems. Bingeing on brewskis can also make you fat, since a 12-ounce regular beer has about 150 calories, while light beer has about 100.
Read about common diet myths that are dangerous to your health
Here are 10 surprising—and healthy—reasons to cheer about your next beer.
1. Stronger Bones
Beer contains high levels of silicon, which is linked to bone health. In a 2009 study at Tufts University and other centers, older men and women who swigged one or two drinks daily had higher bone density, with the greatest benefits found in those who favored beer or wine. However, downing more than two drinks was linked to increased risk for fractures.
For the best bone-building benefits, reach for pale ale, since a 2010 study of 100 types of beer from around the word identified these brews as richest in silicon, while light lagers and non-alcoholic beers contained the least.
2. A Stronger Heart
A 2011 analysis of 16 earlier studies involving more than 200,000 people, conducted by researchers at Italy’s Fondazion di Ricerca e Cura, found a 31 percent reduced risk of heart disease in those who quaffed about a pint of beer daily, while risk surged in those who guzzled higher amounts of alcohol, whether beer, wine, or spirits.
More than 100 studies also show that moderate drinking trims risk of heart attacks and dying from cardiovascular disease by 25 to 40 percent, Harvard reports. A beer or two a day can help raise levels of HDL, the “good” cholesterol that helps keep arteries from getting clogged.

Belikin Beer | KegWorks
Belikin BeerThursday, June 21st, 2007 by Pete
It states right on the bottle “Belikin - the beer of Belize” and they aren’t kidding. Belikin is “the” only beer available in most places in Belize. I was in Belize for 9 days and I only saw Belikin products and occasionally Red Stripe. Belikin Brewing makes 4 products: Belikin Lager, Belikin Stout, Light House, and Belikin Premium. The Belikin Company also produces Guinness Foreign Extra Stout under license from Guinness. Belikin Lager is by far the most popular beer you will find in Belize. Every place that serves alcohol will have it in bottles, and if you ask for a Belikin or just a “beer” you will get a Belikin Lager. The others can be more elusive, but are generally available at better bars and resorts. They all pretty much taste the same, the differences being that Light House is a light beer and the Belikin Premium comes in 12 ounce bottle with a alcohol content around 5.5%. I understand that Belikin on draft exists, but I never saw any draft beer in Belize.
Belikin Lager tastes pretty much like most tropical beers: slightly sweet with very low hops flavor and a clean finish, making it a refreshing beer you can drink a lot of in the tropical heat. I found the taste similar to, but even milder than, Miller High Life (which is my favorite summertime drinking beer). The lager goes great with the seafood and rice and beans dishes that are a staple of the Belizean diet. Belikin Lager’s alcohol content is a little lower in than most US domestic lagers at 4.8% alcohol by volume. The stout is a dark, very sweet stout with a higher alcohol content at 6.3% by volume. The stout is surprisingly good, but a bit too sweet to drink more than a couple of bottles in a row in the heat of Belize.
Belikin Lager and Stout come in the same bottle, the only difference is the bottle cap; green caps for lager and blue caps for stout. The bottles are the heaviest I have ever felt. They are the same size as a U.S. 12 ounce bottle, but hold 9.6 ounces. The locals joke that the bottles are as heavy empty as they are full. So, if you are US tourist looking to tie on a tropical beer buzz, be ready to put away few more bottles than you are used to drinking at home due to the smaller bottle volume and lower alcohol content. If you get sick of Belikin beer, Belize also produces many excellent rums.

This past week, in an effort to improve our "Wade The Gringo" product, we tested a "new hamburger bun. The bun was of the best quality ingredients and from a reputable supplier. The feed back from our loyal customers has made us rethink that change and bring back the buns that made "Wade The Gringo Burgers" famous here in San Pedro. I would like to apologize for overlooking how strong and loyal a customer base we have. As a token to you for your support and feed back, Tuesday from 6-9 pm come by the Roadkill for a free order of fries with any burger and drink order. Thank you all again for your input and support. Wade The Gringo Burgers: Best Burger in Belize
AverageGringo 1 reviews
The burgers served at the Roadkill bar by Wade the Gringo are great. The bar is on the side of the road, with out door seating and ice cold beer Favorite Dish: Got to try the Big Gringo burger. A copy of the Big Mac, but so much better. The kids loved the Kids Meals. Burger, Fries and a toy.
